To Love A Child - Helping Children Around the World Live Better Lives

Safe travel team members:  Tim Schmehl (representing TLC, GE and St. John's Episcopal Church), Scott Underhill (representing AECOM and St. George's Church), and Kelly Robinson and Greta White from AECOM.  Their projects will include solar and clean water.  The team will also stop at the Orphanage of Good Will and the Orphanage of Unfortunate Children to deliver needed supplies.

We have a container heading to Haiti in May.  It is a perfect time to send down shoes which are too bulky to take on our mission trips.  Children range in age from 4 - 16.  Black dress shoes are needed for church and school.  Casual shoes are needed for everyday wear and play.  Please consider donating shoes for the boys and girls in Haiti.  Thank you.  Call 518-859-4424 for pick-up or to arrange delivery.  We so appreciate YOU!

Want to become more involved in our events, fundraising and committees?  If you have answered "yes" to this question
than "The Volunteer Circle" is just for you!  Please contact us and we will get you started right away in whatever area
interests you most.

In the past few months Greenwich CSD has been very busy helping TLC.  They've collected boxes of clothing, first-aide supplies, hygiene supplies and pajamas.  The 7th and 10th grade French classes of Mrs. Andrea Merlow have been especially busy as they all wrote letters to students in Haiti.  Those letters were in the hands of 5th & 6th grade students just 10 days ago and today I shared those letters with the French classes.  A video from the Haitian students singing was also shared with the Greenwich students.  THANK YOU TO YOU ALL AT GREENWICH CSD FOR YOUR HELP AND DEDICATION TO OUR PROJECTS IN HAITI.

Little "Hope" returned with the team about 12 days ago and is adapting nicely although
the snow last week was a bit shocking to her.  Hope is 12" high and weighs about
15 lbs.  This little pup is truly loved and she truly loves her new life.  I'm sure Hope will have alot
to share in the upcoming months so please stand by.

Your trash could be our treasures!  We need baby things!  Gently used
bassinettes, baby wash tubs, all types of baby carriers, walkers, high chairs,
pack and plays and summer maternity clothes--especially dresses and
skirts.  These items will be the beginning of our Infant Development
Programme.  Call 518-859-4424 or write us at directoratTLC@aol.com
if you have items to donate!

We were so happy to have Dr. Maribeth Wallingford, a veterinarian from Saratoga Springs, on our team in February.  Maribeth met with farmers and reviewed the proper care for goats, cows, horses and donkeys.  The farmers were quite happy with the information provided and requested more sessions for a  longer period of time in the future.  We plan to roll out "Animal University" in the Fall of this year.  All participants in the program in Haiti will receive certificates of completion and lots of great hands-on experience with their animals.

Our team of teachers were warmly  welcomed by the teachers in Haiti.   They spent several days working together on
art projects, recycling projects, music and general classroom discussions.  It  was a wonderful experience for all and in the end the kids, both in Haiti and in the USA, win.  Pictured are Michele Brobston, Heidi Brewer and Theresa Hayes
with the teachers in Haiti.

On our recent trip we gathered expectant moms in an effort to improve our maternal health program.  We distributed Bundles of Love and Bundles of Joy which we greatly appreciated.  We also heard of the need for equipment for the babies.  The "Infant Development Programme" was born!  The programme will be managed by 6 women who will accept and manage equipment such as high chairs, basinettes and baby carriers.  The women will distribute the equipment as needed throughout the community and monitor the usage so the equipment can be passed on and on.  Items needed are:  Baby tubs,  Front and hip baby carriers,  Baby carrier wraps,  Framed baby carriers, Bassinets, Pack and Plays,  High Chairs, and Walkers.  There will also be a Maternity Clothing Share Programme so gently used summer and lightweight clothing are needed.   Skirts and dresses are a priority!  We have a shipment going to Haiti in May so if you have items to donate please let us know!  A photo of some of the women who gathered for this meeting is below.

The time in Haiti goes by so quickly.  I can't believe we are home already.  The team did a great job with the projects.  Children in two orphanages have pajamas now and they loved them.  We even had some extra that we distributed to other needy children.  The kids wore their new pj's to bed and the next day some of them refused to take them off so they wore their street clothes on top of their jammies!  We cooked up stacks of pancakes at the orphanages which the children also loved.  More stories about our trip throughout the days ahead.
