Clean Water Needed!
Gravity Fed Water System with Filtration
Life Sustaining Waters… Water: We all need it, but many of us are privileged enough to forget about our strong reliance on it. We need it for drinking, cooking, and bathing. We need it to grow crops, support animals, and for proper sanitation. We need it for industry, for energy, for fun and for life. Water is absolutely vital for life.
In the rural village of Rantlamouaie, Haiti, water is available at two water holes but testing has shown that the water contains bacteria. People wash their clothes and bathe in in the water leaving behind remnants of soap. Moreover, goats, pigs, horses and donkeys are tied along the stream’s edge for an entire day, contaminating the waters with their waste. This contamination poses severe health risks to Rantlamouaie’s people. This stream is such a valuable source of water, individuals walk great distances to reach it in order to fill their drinking containers. However, this water contains protozoa, viruses, and/or bacteria that are naked to the human eye. When swallowed, these microorganisms move into the intestine, where they can reproduce causing many life-threatening health problems, such as diarrhea. According to the World Health Organization, diarrheal disease accounts for an estimated 4.1% of the total daily global burden of disease, and is responsible for the deaths of 1.8 million people every year. Significantly, it has been estimated that 88% of that burden is attributable to unsafe water supplies and poor sanitation and hygiene. These problems are mostly concentrated in children in developing countries, such as the children of Rantlamouaie. Essentially, water, which should be a source of life, actually becomes a dangerous threat for many children. The children of Rantlamouaie deserve fresh clean drinking water, and with your help, To Love a Child can provide this. The disease and death caused by contaminated water are preventable. Please, help us provide these children the key to life: pure, clean water. Our goal is to provide a gravity fed water system with a filtration system. The system will begin at the highest water hole and run to the school and church area which is the hub of activity especially since solar power has just been installed by TLC. Estimated Project Cost: $17,000 If you would like to contribute toward the well project, please Donate Now!
