Rewards of a Summer Internship - September 2010

Board members Virginia Touhey & Teresa Brobston with Gretchen
Hello Everyone! My name is Gretchen Barkhuff, I am a junior at SUNY Geneseo, and I’ve been a summer intern for To Love a Child. It has been a wonderful experience working with this organization—it is made up of people who truly strive to improve the lives of children worldwide. As an intern, I have helped with the behind the scenes office work that makes the positive outcomes of To Love a Child possible. Some of my jobs include researching grant opportunities and charitable foundations, writing letters for support, and working on To Love a Child’s brochure. I also attend meetings with local organizations that we work with and also help plan events. Even though all of my work is within the United States, it is extremely rewarding knowing that everything I accomplish is a step towards giving children both abroad and at home a better future. As I prepare to go back to school, I encourage other young people to get involved with this admirable organization. To Love a Child can always use help, whatever your talents or knowledgebase may be. Young people have a lot to offer and truly can make a difference. Please consider getting involved with To Love a Child. Believe me, you won’t regret it.
“Words cannot express the deep appreciation we have for Gretchen and her dedication over the summer. She is an outstanding individual both professionally and personally.
