This is an Eco-Quest Program!
Zero Hunger is #2 on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
We have served thousands of hot nutritious meals to the most vulnerable children
and we plan to do more!
This is not an easy task. In Haiti deforestation has caused the erosion of the healthy soil needed for quality farming. In Zimbabwe, climate change has brought severe droughts which has made it difficult to produce high-yield harvests. For the last two years, we have made an emergency purchase of a massive amount of grain so the people in our two villages will have enough food to eat to get them through the lean (drought) season. Now we are planning ahead.
In Mberengwa, we have constructed a grain depot to stockpile grain. The local government has donated 10 hectres of land and our project manager along with people from the village have plowed and seeded the land. The crops will be harvested and some will be saved in the grain depot. Other produce will be given to the students to eat.
In both Mberegwa and Chikandakubi, we will undertake a large reforestation project. We will plant a wide variety of trees; shade trees and fruit trees that can be harvested so the students can eat. We plan for both locations to have rich food forests.
We monitor the wells in both villages and also plan for irrigation to the trees in the near future.
CARING HEARTS is a monthly donation program so that meals can be consistent for the children we serve. A child feels such joy, as well as peace of mind, knowing there is a meal waiting for them each day. It costs $2 to serve a meal to a child.
