Maternal Health Program
Bundles of Love are distributed to pregnant women.
In Haiti the mortality rate for children under one is 46.8 per 1,000 live births. A recent newspaper article says "Haiti has the highest maternal mortality rate in the Americas; higher than much of Africa, including Sudan and Rwanda. According to the most recent figures available, Haitian women have a one in 280 chance of dying due to pregnancy or childbirth – a death rate, relative to the country’s population, 40 times greater than the UK, 26 times more than the US and almost on a par with Afghanistan. "
To Love a Child (TLC) is taking measures to help with this situation by provided prenatal vitamins to pregnant women. Since the rate of home births is substantially high we are providing “Bundles of Love” Birthing Kits. These kits contain simple supplies and materials that are highly effective in keeping the birth environment clean and lowering the chances of infection. We are also providing “Bundles of Joy” Newborn Baby Kits which contain items needed for the baby during the first months of life.

Collecting the items listed below
Sewing reusable menstrual pads or cloth drawstring bags
Helping us to assemble the kits and prepare them for shipment
General Program Needs:
New or gently used maternity tops, dresses, or skirts
pre-natal vitamins
disposable plastic birthing mats
disposable gloves
safety pins and infant nail clippers
reusable menstrual pads*
size 5 and 6 panties
alcohol pads
toothbrushes
new or gently used sleepers, t-shirts , & Onesies
light weight baby blankets, cloth diapers
plastic pants, diaper pins
cloth drawstring bags and newborn hats
*patterns are available for the reusable menstrual pads. Pads are made of soft flannel and need a small amount of sewing.
